WCIT 2008
My company had a booth at the recently concluded WCIT 2008. Since the company is owned by the Sarawak State Government, naturally we were placed under the Sarawak State Booth.
Sarawak State Booth
Opposite our booth is the Selangor State Booth. This is a big contrast to ours. Yup, ours is the ugliest booth among all the State booth.
Selangor State Booth
There were plenty of interesting IT products and services showcased. Many ministers and royalty grace the event. Our booth were visited by the King, the Regent of Pahang, the Prime Minister and other ministers. It was quite an experience.
My feet hurts like hell after 3 days of standing and walking for more than 8 hours. Yes we have chairs but it was a busy event with over 100,000 visitors (or so they claimed!). Bill Gates attended as a hologram. Yup, go google it.
Anyway, for me the highlight is this photo. No prizes to guess who he is. He is my definition of a true patriot.
See if you can find Jeff Ooi in this photo!

We had a company dinner to celebrate the upcoming Hari Raya festival. Since I was asked to suggest a venue (shouldn’t we check with our muslim friends instead???), I said Saisaki. Saisaki is a Japanese restaurant that services Japanese buffet (duh!). It costs about RM55 per person. The food is quite decent and personally I thought it is a real value for money. Of course people like my boss who eats less than a cat would not get their value worth. And not to mention the company accountant who keeps tabs on how much each person eats. No, he’s not looking for people who overeats, he’s just making sure everybody eats their money’s worth.
Here’s some photos:

Suffice to say, we had a great time.

Whatever is happening to us nowadays? Ethics seem to be rare among the youngsters nowadays. I’m talking about work ethics.
They come to work expect to be paid but they don’t expect to be asked to work. They want high salary but they want simple and cushy jobs. They want increments and bonuses but they don’t want to earn it. Even if you want to rob a bank, you still need to plan, strategise, muster the courage and take action!
Decisions made are based on emotions. Morale is based on feelings. Whatever happened to responsibility, accountability and integrity?! I get so sick and tired seeing all this. Sometimes I feel they need a good spanking, especially since they’re acting like kids.
Arrggg!!! I need to go whack somebody…

I was at a customer’s office one evening. They were having some cabling works done and it involves removing the false ceilings above their workstation.
When the workers were removing the part just above the CTO’s desk, dusts were falling down. The CTO promptly stood up and announced matter-of-factly:
“All these dust is bad for my asthma…, I think I’ll go for a smoke.”
My mind went blank for a moment.
