UPM Hooligans

July 19th, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in @Thoughts

Of late we have been seeing a number of video clips taken from camera phones or vidcams on ‘weird’ police interrogation methods, bullying in boys school, bullying in girls school etc. Recently, one clip that is making its way around the cyberspace is the alleged racism in UPM (University Putra Malaysia).

Having seen this clip, I find it disturbing. I can understand those hooligans in secondary schools. But for students studying in Universities to act like that is ridiculous. These people can be considered as young adults by the society but yet they act like, as what some forumer calls them, monkeys.

Although you can see a big group of malays harassing a small group of chinese, I highly doubt it is about racism here. Just a coincidence on the race ‘thingy’. The matter is about the group of chinese not having obtain the proper permission from the hostel ‘authorities’ to set up a counter in the canteen for some charity purposes. However, it is the method they used to “get rid” of the “chinese” group that is sickening.

It is no wonder that Malaysia is dubbed as the 3rd most rudest country.

World Peace

How do we achieve world peace?

A very good question. Someone asked this in the LYN forum and someone else answered,

“To Threadstarter: How’s the depression pills coming along?”

Who can blame him? This question is almost moronic. Just like those ladies who parade around in swimsuits in front of an audience of thousands hoping to be crowned with some useless title answering the question “If you have one wish, what would you wish for?” “World Peace!

world peace

Isn’t she irritating?

The human race is so stupid diverse that to live in absolute harmony is near impossible. I say near impossible because I believe there is a way.

What we need is someone wise to rise up politically and make others see the beauty of his way. Then when it’s too late, wrench power from all world leaders and unite the world under one rule. If there is any opposition, eliminate them.

It may seem cruel at first but it is because of all this whiners and idealist that causes all the disharmony in the first place. Wipe them all out. After all, history is written by the victors. Then implement one law that everyone must obey. There will be only one government, one belief and one culture. No confusion.

That is why I firmly believe Palpatine is misunderstood. It’s all the fault of the so-called peace-loving talking-green-rat followers that causes the problem when they oppose him.

Imagine if he has taken over the world! We would have speeders, A-wings, X-wings, Star Destroyers and Death Stars! *drools… * Then at last, we will have WORLD PEACE!

Yes, I’m in need of therapy.

Unsung Heroes

Garbage Collectors

I just moved to a new apartment recently and tenants are required to throw their garbage in a designated area away from the apartment units. I really dread the hassle of taking the smelly bags 7 floor down and walk something like half a mile to throw them bags. Ok, it’s actually a few metres away but it seemed further when you’re taking the garbage.

Then I saw these people. Day in and day out, they go to people’s houses to collect their rubbish and dispose of them. Right here in the picture, my car is just behind them while they make a quick stop to collect the garbage. I can see it’s not an easy job nor it is the most pleasant one. The guy on the right even made effort to pick up and small little bits that fell off the truck. These are the society heroes no one spoke about. In fact, their job is usually used to frightened little children to study harder. “If you don’t study harder you’ll end up being a garbage collector!”. That’s what my mum used to say when I was young. By the way, I’m still young. I was a lot younger then…

Honestly I don’t see what’s wrong with their occupation. Yes, it’s a dirty job but someone’s gotta do it. Without them, we’ll all be buried under tons of our own rubbish. These people should get more recognition. I have a new respect for these people.

We are all hypocrites! Really!

I can’t remember how the topic came about but a friend of mine said this.

If a lady drops her bag and the hunchback of Notredame picks it up for her. She will either be polite and accept it with a smile and say thank you or be rude, snatched it back in disgust. Or worst, leave the bag and run screaming.

On the other hand, if Tom Cruise or Orlando Bloom were to pick it up, she will be all over him. Forget the bag. And it will be the topic of conversation for months to come.

After composing myself from laughter, I had to agree with him. Of course the ladies are glaring, trying to resist the urge to flay us alive in public. There are some truth to that.

Piracy Rulez!

November 25th, 2005 | No Comments | Posted in @Thoughts

There’s a rumour going round that the first pirated XBox 360 game can now be found on the web. Call of Duty 2 was ripped from a XBox 360 disc and released in .iso format.

To me this does not come as a surprise. Piracy is so rampant nowadays it seems like part of our culture. In my opinion, piracy can never be eradicated. As long as there is a demand there will always be supply. Not many people can afford the exorbitant price tag of the original hence creating the demand.

No matter what steps we take to counter piracy, pirates will always come up with ways to circumvent it. For example, cinemas are now screening patrons for any video recording devices in their bags before entering the theatre. This does not stop piracy at all. It only delays it. When the original movie is released in VCDs or DVDs, it will just be a matter of time before copies of it is found in p2p sites. There is also the copies of screener versions circulating out there.

Like it or not, piracy is a lucrative business. Illegal, yes but lucrative nonetheless. The way I see it, the only sure way to remove piracy is to brainwash the entire world population but that’s wishful thinking. If I can brainwash the entire world, I wouldn’t start with piracy.

So what can we do about piracy? I can’t say much on this subject because I am guilty of it. However, if the punishment for piracy is severe enough, perhaps it would make people think twice. Maybe if for every pirated CD found on a person, would means 3 months prison, that would seriously reduce piracy. But then the governments would have to turn an island the size of Australia into a detention center for pirates.

Oh well, I guess piracy is here to stay.
