Petrol Price Up Again!

Petrol price has gone up again. The first for 2006 and apparently the last for this year. So says the government. The last price increase was in June/July 2005. Then the government assured that there will be no further increase till end of the year. And yesterday, it went up by 30 cents to RM1.92/litre. That’s quite a hefty jump. If this goes on, I predict the increase for next year will be another 30 cents or more until petrol is no longer subsidised at RM2.663/litre.

Although petrol price is relatively cheaper compared to our neighbouring countries, a sudden hike like this is a shock and burden. At least ease us into it. It’s better for me to just move myself closer to office and walk to work. Cheaper in the long run.

No parking!

I can’t helped it. He deserved it. Kudos to the security guard that clamped his car. You can’t see it in the picture but the no parking sign and the clamping zone sign is just a few feet in front of it. Some people just blatantly ignore the signs for their own convenience without thinking about the inconvenience it causes others. So good job to the security guard who did this. Now they just have to increase the fine ten-fold as a deterrent.

Uber Desk for Geeks

I showed this (poetic.com) to my boss one day and told him to propose to the higher management to slot this absolutely necessary furniture in the next budget. He gave me a weird look. Wonder what’s wrong with him…?

Anyway, I thought that this is something all geeks should have. In fact, it’s paramount that they work on this god-given desk. I’m pretty sure performance will increase ten-fold with this piece of desk. Of course the first 3 months performance will drop to almost zero but once the geeks has gotten over the excitement, it will pick up again. I’m pretty sure it will. Really. And stop giving me that weird look… duh!

New Google Logo

So Google has a new look coming. Some says the new look is more professional but for me I still like the old logo. The current logo has a 3D feel to it while the new looks a bit flat. I guess it’s up to each individual’s preference.

Having a badge…

Having a badge doesn’t make you special. Unfortunately our Malaysian police force seem to think that just because they have a badge and wears a uniform, they can go around bullying people “legally”. You would think they would be a lot wiser after the nude squat incident.

In the recent case, a group of elderly were shaved bald by the police while in custody for illegal gambling during the Chinese festive holidays. Now they are suing the government and the police force for RM1Million. Too little if you ask me, unless it’s a million for each of them.

I understand that the police is there to keep us all safe. But does that mean they have special rights above other citizens that they can do whatever they want? Is it right to humiliate another fellow citizen just because they committed an offense? Somebody needs to drive the message across loud and clear to the police. Do your job and do it professionally. Stop being a bully.
